How can we help?

Quick answers about Boxdini, the group guessing game from PuffyWings Studio. It is coming soon to iPhone and Android. Still stuck, found a bug, or have an idea? Email the studio.

How to play

How does scoring work?

Every box hides one pictured object, and hints arrive one at a time, vague first. A right answer scores 6 minus the number of the hint showing, so hint 1 is worth 5 points and hint 5 is worth 1. The earlier you get it, the more you score.

The rules for each way to play, including what happens after a wrong answer, are under How to play on the Home screen.

How do I play One phone, one table?

Put the phone in the middle of the table and say your answers aloud. With 3 or more players, you take turns as judge, and the judge for each box taps Right or Wrong. You can turn judging off when you set up the game. With 2 players there is no judge and you both guess. It is for 2 to 8 players and works without internet.

How do I play Everyone on their own phone (Live)?

One player starts a room and shares its 4-letter code, and up to 8 players join on their own phones. Everyone types their answers while a hint timer runs, and the app judges them.

How do I play Send a challenge?

Play 5, 10 or 15 boxes on your own, then share your 6-character challenge code with friends. They play the same boxes on their own phones within 7 days, and a board shows everyone’s results once they finish.

How do I play the Daily Box?

Everyone gets the same box each day, and you type your answer. Your streak stays on your phone, and the result card you can share gives nothing away.

My answer was right, but the game rejected it

Tap Suggest this answer after a rejection. It sends only the exact text you typed (40 characters at most), which box it was, and the version of the answer list. It sends no name and no device ID, and it does not change your score.

We read suggestions about once a week. Each one is kept for up to 90 days, then deleted automatically.

A hint or a picture looks wrong

Please tell us. Email us the pack, the answer and what looks wrong, and we will check it against the picture.

Rooms, challenges and the Daily Box

How do I join a room with a code?

Tap Join with code on the Home screen and type the 4-letter room code the host shows you. Capital letters do not matter. You need an internet connection.

A room closes to new players once its first box starts, so join early. If you get dropped from a game, enter the same code again to rejoin.

How do challenge codes work, and what is the 7 day window?

A challenge code has 6 letters and numbers. Enter it with Join with code on the Home screen to play the same boxes as the sender, at your own pace. You can also paste the whole message your friend sent. You do not need to own the pack, because it plays for that challenge only.

A challenge is open for 7 days after it is made. It is then deleted automatically, usually within two days after that, so play before the week is up. You see everyone’s results once you have finished your own boxes.

How does the Daily Box streak work?

The Daily Box is one box a day, the same for everyone. Your streak is kept on this phone only. If you delete the app or switch phones, you lose it, unless the phone is restored from a backup.

How do I start the boxes over?

Open Settings > Your boxes > Start boxes over. Every box counts as new again, so you may meet boxes you have already played. Your packs and your streak stay.

Packs and purchases

What is in the packs, and what do they cost?

There are six packs of 60 boxes each. Everyday Things and Animals are free. Food & Sweets, On the Move, Games & Party and Tech & Science are a one-time purchase of $1.99 each, or $3.99 for all four. There is no subscription. These prices are in US dollars. Your store shows the price for your country.

How do I restore my purchases?

iPhone: open Settings > Your boxes > Restore purchases, or tap Restore on the Packs screen. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.

Android: your packs come back automatically, and Settings > Your boxes > Restore purchases checks again. Use the same Google account you bought with.

Still missing a pack? Email us with the order ID from your receipt email and we will sort it out.

Can my family share the packs I buy?

Not through Family Sharing: a pack belongs to the Apple or Google account that bought it. You can still play together. In a live room, the pack the host chose plays for everyone in that game, and in a challenge friends play the sender’s boxes, so nobody needs to own a pack to join.

Why do my packs not carry between iPhone and Android?

Apple handles purchases on iPhone and Google handles purchases on Android, and Boxdini has no accounts that could link the two. A pack you buy on one stays on that one. If you play on both, you would need to buy it on both. The free packs are free on both.

Who handles refunds?

Apple or Google processes every purchase, so refund requests go to them. We never see your payment details.

Privacy and safety

Is there advertising in Boxdini?

No. Boxdini has no ads, no accounts and no advertising identifiers.

How old do I need to be?

Boxdini is for players aged 13 and over. See the Terms for the details.

Does Boxdini count how I play?

Only if you say yes. It is off until you agree, and you can change your mind any time in Settings > Privacy > Share anonymous usage. It counts a few simple things, like how many games are played, along with standard technical details such as your phone model, app version and approximate location. It never records names, typed answers or room codes. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what is counted.

How do I delete my online data?

Open Settings > Online > Delete my online data. Most of what Boxdini keeps stays on your phone and is never sent to us. The online part is only for live rooms and challenges, and deleting it does not touch your packs, streak or settings.

Challenges you made are deleted too, so friends lose the results in them. The app tells you this before it deletes anything.

Rooms and challenges also delete themselves: live rooms about 24 hours after they are made, and challenges usually within two days after their 7 days are up.

Prefer email? Write to puffywingsstudio@gmail.com with the subject “Delete my online data”, and tell us your nickname and the room or challenge code if you remember them. Boxdini has no accounts and only the app knows your anonymous ID, so the button in Settings is the surest way. The Privacy Policy has the full details.

How do I report a player?

In a live room or a challenge, tap the Report flag next to that player’s name. If it did not work, or you want to tell us more, email us with the room or challenge code and the nickname you saw. A room’s host can also remove a player from the room.

Nicknames go through a word filter on your phone before they are sent, and again before another player’s nickname is shown. Typed answers are never shown to other players.

Your phone and settings

Can I play without internet?

Two of the four ways to play work offline: One phone, one table and the Daily Box. Live rooms and challenges need the internet.

Is there a darker look?

Yes. Open Settings > Look and choose Extra dark. The usual look is warm indigo, and you can switch back any time.

Can I make the text bigger?

Yes. Boxdini follows the text size you choose in your phone’s own settings. During a one phone game, the very largest sizes stop at 125% of the normal size so everything still fits on screen.

Does Boxdini work on foldable phones, and which languages does it have?

Boxdini works on phones and foldables, on iPhone and Android. It is in English only at launch.

On an Android foldable, Settings > One phone game lets you open the box by unfolding the phone. This is new and may not work on every phone, and the Lid off button does the same thing.

The game froze or closed unexpectedly

Close the app completely and open it again, and make sure you have the latest version from your store. If it keeps happening, email us your phone model, the app version and what you were doing when it happened.
